Remote Online Written Test
What is Know to Drive Online (K2DO)?
K2DO is an online service that allows applicants to complete the written exam for a class 3 instructional permit in the comfort of their own home.
To take the test online, you must have an internet-connected desktop or laptop computer with a mouse (or mouse-pad controlled cursor), keyboard and a functioning webcam. No cell phone, tablet or touchscreen device may be used.
FEE to use this service is $11.00 ($1 County fee + $10 combined transaction and credit card fee), payable only online by credit/debit card.
Before you take the online test:
Please be sure you have all the required documents needed to issue an instructional permit upon passing. Click the links below for more information

**If you do not have ALL required documents at the time of issuance you will be turned away. **
About the test:
- You must have an internet-connected desktop or laptop computer with a mouse (or mouse-pad controlled cursor), keyboard and a functioning webcam. No cell phone, tablet or touchscreen device may be used.
- You must provide identity registration information that includes first name, last name, street address, city, state, zip code, date of birth and last five digits of your social security number.
- You must select "Hawaii County", if you take the test in the wrong County, we will not be able to accept your certificate of completion.
- Applicants under the age of 18 must have an adult over the age of 18 present to participate in the registration process. The responsible adult will be required to provide first name, last name, date of birth, last five digits of their social security number, and a valid driver’s license number. During the testing, the adult must stay out of view of the webcam.
- The 30-question test is currently offered in English and Spanish and has a one-hour time limit to complete.
- During the examination, the applicant may not look to the side or navigate away from the test screen.
After taking the online test
If you have FAILED the online test there is a 7-day waiting period before you are able to re-test. This waiting period is for both online and in person testing.
If you have PASSED the online test you will need to make an appointment under written test/instruction permit by clicking here. There will be an additional $11.00 fee to issue your instruction permit at your appointment.
***You must PRINT and bring your Certificate of Completion and ALL required documents to issue your permit. If any documents are missing you will be turned away. ***
